Salvation of South Sudan
One of the most inspiring people I have met is Salva Dut. He builds wells for villages in South Sudan, and he was inspired by his childhood, which is in the book Long Walk to Water.
I felt that the book A Long Walk to Water had a powerful message. It showed what it was like to be in the Sudan war. When the war came to his village, Salva, other boys in his school, and some people from his village had to flee to the bush to escape. In the process, Salva is separated from his family. Some other people have fled with him, and they set on a journey to find the refugee camp in Ethiopia. The book goes on to say that Salva leads about 1,500 boys to another refugee camp in Kenya, then Salva and some other boys get transported to the U.S. to live a new life. After a few more years, Salva is contacted and told that his father is alive and in a hospital in South Sudan. Salva meets him, and his father tells him that the rest of his family have survived. Inspired by his father's sickness, Salva creates a company that makes wells for South Sudan.
When Salva came to our school, he talked about the book and what his company does. He showed that one small thing can make a huge difference. I was inspired by him to make things in the world better.
